World Class Hospitality

Why going home for a little R&R is better than going to a resort:

Food and Drink:  My mother is an amazing cook.  The kitchen is always open.  The bar is always stocked.  I didn't drink when I was home though.  Interesting.

Free Entertainment:  I got to play for hours with my nice and nephew.  This could also be filed under the "work out" section!  I am really sore from lifting those kids up!  You gotta have muscles to be a parent!  Also, my father smokes swisher sweets occasionally and I will never forget the confusion on his face as I was explaining to him what a "blunt" was.  He scrunched his face and said, "ya right".  And I said, "Really, Dad, you grew up in the 70's.  Really."  He might still scrunching his face as you read this . . .

Awesome Cable:  My parents have 400 gazillion channels and about half of them are movie channels.  They also have 2 large flat screen television sets.  This time home I watched Clueless and remembered how much I actually like it.  I also watched this really cool movie called "The Darwin Awards".  It came out in 2006, starring Joeseph Fiennes and Winona Ryder.  I think this movie may be one of my new favorites.  I also watched "Pirate Radio" which was also good, but I probably wouldn't watch it again.  It made me a little sad . . .  non-corporate radio stations and the dj's on them are truly a dying art.

Beach Access:  My hometown is 45 minutes away from a beautiful reservoir.  We spent all day Sunday on the beach.  I splashed around with the kids, tanned, chatted, built sand castles, and relaxed under the shade tent.

Comfortable Amenities:  I have the most comfortable bed in the house.  It's technically the guest bedroom (my parents moved after I graduated high school and moved out), so it's quiet and very lovely.  Plus, my parents have a water softener--this is key in my hometown because of hard water and zero humidity.  And it's a little luxury, especially for someone who has always rented.

**Nostalgia**:  I grew up in NE Wyoming where there is a lot of sagebrush, the air is clean, and the stars go on for miles overhead.  I stepped outside Saturday night and I swear I could close my eyes and I was right back in High School, leaving my house to meet my friends for the evening.  I don't know if it was the sagebrush or what, but my hometown has a sweet summer air unlike anything I've ever experienced.   Western Montana smells lovely too with it's pine and high, crisp mountain air.  But that air Saturday night . . . well, it took me to another, simpler time in my life.  A hotel couldn't do that . . .

Wanna stay there with me sometime??

Peace & Love,
Nik

I would have loved to be there with you. :( Miss you, miss those summer days on the lake begging your dad not to dump us off the tubes, miss sitting on your Momma's kitchen counters....miss movies late at night....those were the good ole days. I am reminiscing right along with you.

Um....whenever I came home for "vacation" I turned into the chaufer, the baby sitter, the errand runner, etc. I never really get to relax when visit family, because I'm pulled in all sorts of direction.

PS. I love that the cable is one of the reasons you listed.

PPS. Im bummed we didn't get to meet up, but I may be back out there later this summer. =)
