A Guitar God
I don't play electric guitar, but I have mad respect for those that do.
I just watched something that I thought I would share with you. "It Might Get Loud" is the rock and roll documentary about three legendary guitarists--The Edge (U2), Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), and Jack White (The White Stripes, The Raconteurs). They each share insights into their own creative process as well as how their unique backgrounds shaped their ever-evolving sounds.
The Edge showed his ever-apparent willingness to experiment with technology. I love when he shows us the "new riff" he's come up with using the pedals on the ground and then switches them off to show the bare chords. He even laughs at how silly it all is. I heart you Edge. I don't care how corny it is. I really, really do heart you.
I can't help but be attracted to Jack White's anti-establishment views. His angry, let's get back to the roots of rock 'n' roll and blues are magnetic. Sometimes he comes off a little arrogant, but he IS making shit happen with that red, plastic guitar. Dude, he plays guitar so hard, his hands bleed. Now that's rock 'n' roll.
Then there is the wonderful "we are not worthy" Jimmy Page. When I see this man play guitar, my inner groupie comes flying out--even in my living room. This man is a guitar god. I was cracking up when he was in his study getting all giddy for Link Wray's "Rumble". It was adorable. I was then saying (rather loudly, and I am sure I woke my 180 year-old neighbor up) "Hell yeah!" when he began explaining and playing the sickest of the sick, Gibson Les Paul A type double neck guitar that was used in "Stairway to Heaven". OMG, people. OMG.
Also, when the three describe their first guitars . . . it's like they are talking about meeting their first loves. Shit. You gotta love that . . .
Anyway, I would strongly suggest that you check this DVD out if you are music lover. You can buy it here or (if you live in my town) you can check it out from the library for FREE homies.
Lata,
Nik
