5 Things To Like This Week

1.  Martin Luther King, Jr. Day was Monday.  MLK day is my second favorite holiday (next to Halloween and Easter is close third) because of what it represents: freedom, equality, civil rights, and peaceful, non-violent means of settling conflict.  Yet it is also a day of celebration.  On January 21st, we celebrate the life of a man who devoted his life to equality, social justice, and the basic human rights of all people.  Remember to hug the ones you love close to you. My favorite thing to do on the day is to go somewhere where I can hear Dr. King's beautiful "I Have A Dream" speech.  This speech moves me. It uplifts my spirit. It reminds me of our connectedness as a human race no matter our skin color, our religion, or our beliefs.

2.  The Presidential Inauguration was also on Monday.  I was at work at had the TV turned to CNN's coverage.  It, honestly, got a little boring, but it's tradition, so it was cool to watch it.  I was talking to a woman who was a Romney supporter and she said this was "a bad day" for her, but she was actually pretty respectful.  We discussed the importance of voting and the reason why we live in this country in the first place:  freedom of speech.

3.  Silly adventures.  So, sometimes life hands you shitty situations, right?  But sometimes these situations turn into adventures and you gotta make the decision to get rid of the old and start over anew--knowing that you will always have good memories of the old thing, but it is time to make different memories with the new.  Hmmm?  I'm talking about a car here, but I think it pretty much applies to anything, right?  :-)

4.  The Green Thread.  "Greenthread is a clothing store that specializes in juniors and young women's resale clothing."  My mom, my sister-in-law, my sister, and my niece and nephew came on Monday and we went shopping at the cutest boutique in Spearfish!  They have really quality resale clothes for ladies, gents and kiddos!  Plus, they have lots of locally made hats, scarves and jewelry.  Check it out yo!

5.  Sunflower Cottage.  This place is the best for gift items, plus they sell the Zum soap I love.  My favorite part about shopping at this cozy little house, is they always offer you a sample of their latest coffee or tea.  I've gotten many gifts here and, again, I can't emphasize enough how awesome it is that it is locally owned!

Love,
Nik
