My Favorite Day . . .

Today is Martin Luther King, Jr., Day.  Today is my favorite day because of what it represents:  freedom, equality, civil rights, and peaceful, non-violent means of settling conflict.  Today is also a day of celebration.  Today we celebrate the life of a man who devoted his life to equality, social justice, and the basic human rights of all people.

It is a day of remembrance.  It is a day of service.

On this day, remember how important it is to treat your fellow man with respect.  Remember to hug the ones you love close to you.  My favorite thing to do on this day is to go somewhere, anywhere where I can hear Dr. King's beautiful speech from the Lincoln Memorial.  This speech moves me.  It uplifts my spirit.  It reminds me of our connectedness as a human race no matter our skin color, our religion, or our beliefs.  When I hear this speech, on this special day, I have hope (even in these sometimes tragic times).
